What is 5-HTP for lucid dreaming? 

5-HTP is a naturally occurring amino acid and is one of the most commonly used dietary supplements by advanced lucid dreamers. It is the immediate precursor to serotonin and, since it crosses the blood brain barrier, it is often taken before bed in order to increase serotonin levels in the brain

Serotonin helps in regulating deep sleep and so by increasing serotonin levels, 5-HTP can help to lengthen out deep sleep cycles during the first part of the night. Your brain then realizes that it does not need anymore deep sleep and gives you what is referred to as a "REM rebound", which is extra long REM cycles during the second half of the night. How to use 5-HTP for lucid dreaming

As with many lucid dream supplements, taking the proper dosage at the right time is critical. Since the purpose of 5-HTP for lucid dreaming is to cause a "REM rebound", you want to take it immediately before you go to bed. Its effectiveness will be greatly enhanced by combining it with an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. This sounds confusing, but in a nutshell, it is something that will help prevent the breakdown of ACh in your brain. The best supplement to use for this is Hyperzine-A. Hyperzine is quite expensive but is extremely effective when used in combination with 5-HTP. Keep in mind that you never want to take Hyperzine-A and 5-HTP at the same time as they will counteract each other and will not be effective. To get the real benefit of combining these two supplements, you will need to wake up after 4-5 hours of sleep to take Huperzine. I know, waking up in the night is not easy, but it works. What is the proper dosage of 5-HTP for lucid dreaming?

When using 5-HTP for lucid dreaming, the dosage can vary depending on your weight and tolerance level, but for most people 100 mg is plenty.
